Who Will Receive a Rebate

Payment amounts will depend on a tax filer’s income and filing status. Married couples filing jointly with annual income below $150,000 are set to receive $200. Joint filers earning from $150,000 to $300,000 are expected to get $150.

Individuals filing their taxes separately who make less than $150,000 annually will receive $100. The announcement did not outline additional payment tiers in the material released Monday, but it identified the planned distribution as one of the largest direct-relief efforts included in the state budget.

For families, the schedule matters: the checks will not all arrive at once. Distribution is due to start next Monday and extend until December, so residents who qualify may need to allow time for the statewide mailing process to reach their household.

The Strait of Hormuz, a major route for the global oil industry, has been closed amid the war. Motorists have already seen the consequences at gas stations. AAA listed the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline at roughly $4.32 on Monday morning. At the same point a year earlier, that average was about $3.18 per gallon.

While the rebate is not a permanent change to utility pricing or gasoline costs, it is intended to give households an immediate cushion during a period of elevated expenses. A payment of $100, $150 or $200 may not resolve every increase in a family’s monthly budget, but it can help offset part of a utility bill, fuel purchase or other household expense.
