Trump’s father, real estate developer and businessman Fred Trump, built the house in 1940. Trump lived there until he was 4 years old. Though he is a third-generation New Yorker, his relationship with the city’s political leadership has often been tense and highly visible.

Before Lin’s purchase, the property had been owned by Trump Birth House LLC, which put it on the market in 2019. While that company controlled the home, it was offered as an Airbnb rental. Guests encountered a setting designed around the former resident’s public persona, including cardboard Trump cutouts and presidential-themed decorations.

That approach placed a private neighborhood house into the broader culture surrounding Trump’s political career. The building has functioned at different times as a family home, a novelty rental and a vacant property in need of repair.
