Thinking of signing up to Metro’s Lifeline challenge? Here’s everything you need to know
This summer, picture yourself traversing the scenic Cotswold hills, with the breeze tousling your hair and sunlight warming your skin. Every stride you take during this event contributes to aiding individuals affected by dementia.
What to expect
The 2026 Lifeline challenge is set for Saturday, June 13, at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. Participants can walk 25km, 50km, or 100km—either non-stop or split over two days. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a beginner, there’s a route for you. Team Lifeline includes Metro staff, Alzheimer’s Society volunteers, and readers like you. The group’s diversity ensures a welcoming environment, whether you choose to join alone or with companions.
How to get involved
For those new to our initiative, it’s natural to have questions. That’s why we’ve compiled essential details to help you prepare. The event is open to everyone, with over 2,000 participants expected. Even if you sign up individually, you’ll find a supportive community of walkers to keep you inspired and company throughout the journey.
The challenge requires you to select a walking distance and set a fundraising goal. For the 25km option, targets range from £150 to £275; 50km aims for £225 to £330; and 100km demands £330 to £465. Registration is just £15, but the higher fundraising amounts offer more flexibility for those willing to give extra. Alzheimer’s Society provides tips for fundraising, including suggestions like bake sales and pub quizzes.
Before the event, you’ll need to meet at least 50% of your target three weeks in advance. The remaining donations should be collected within four weeks of finishing the course. Metro’s JustGiving page simplifies the process by centralizing all contributions, and you’ll receive your personal link upon signing up.
As the date nears, you’ll be invited to join a WhatsApp group for real-time updates on start times, routes, and bib numbers. You’ll also receive email reminders to stay on track. For quick answers, Action Challenge’s FAQ section on the sign-up page is a handy resource.
