Man Who Threw Girlfriend from Tower Block Jailed
Jordan Herring, a 22-year-old from Solihull, has received a five-year prison sentence for throwing his girlfriend from the fourth floor of a residential building. The incident occurred in November 2022 at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood, where the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, suffered severe injuries after falling from Herring’s mother’s flat.
According to police, Goodman was airlifted to the hospital with a collapsed lung and multiple fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. The court heard that she spent over a month in hospital, followed by additional weeks relying on a wheelchair. “It was very dehumanising,” she told the BBC.
“I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again,” she said. “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways.”
During the trial at Birmingham Crown Court, jurors were informed that emergency services were not contacted immediately. Herring’s mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan, made a distressed 999 call later that night, expressing fear that her son might harm the victim with a knife. “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son,” she said.
“I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”
Herring was previously convicted of coercive and controlling behavior toward Goodman. In court, he described their relationship as “toxic” and claimed they argued about cheating on the night of the incident. The conviction for wounding and coercive behavior led to a combined five-year sentence. Officers noted that they remained supportive of Goodman and highlighted her bravery in recounting the abuse she endured.
Following the ruling, the police commended her courage. They also emphasized ongoing efforts to assist the victim. BBC Birmingham can be followed on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram for more updates.
