Harry and Meghan Arrive in Australia for Four-Day Tour

Prince Harry and Meghan have landed in Australia for a four-day tour that will involve them balancing charity work with personal, profit-oriented activities. The couple, no longer serving as working royals and visiting under their own initiative, will engage with patients and medical staff at a children’s hospital, as well as military veterans and families affected by domestic violence. The itinerary also includes a commercial component, with Harry set to deliver a keynote address at a summit where admission costs range from A$1,000 to A$2,400 per attendee.

Previous Visit and Current Focus

This marks their first trip to Australia since 2018, when they spent nearly nine days in the country shortly after their wedding. That time was characterized by large public gatherings, but the current visit has no planned events for direct public interaction. The shift in focus reflects their status as private citizens, with the trip reportedly funded independently. However, questions remain about whether Australian taxpayers are covering costs for security during their stay.

“We just found out they were coming so we hung around,” Burke told the BBC, adding that “Meghan came and had a little chat with Phoebe… she was commenting on her Bluey slippers.”

At the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, hundreds of supporters gathered in the foyer for a chance to see the couple on Tuesday. They interacted with children receiving treatment, their parents, and staff, creating a lively atmosphere. The visit will conclude in Sydney, where Meghan will host a “girls’ weekend” event for women, featuring a VIP package that allows guests to secure group photos with her. Ticket prices for the event are up to A$3,199, with some rooms still available.

Commercial Ventures and Public Engagement

Harry’s speech at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit will highlight his involvement in a charity-related initiative, with a portion of profits benefiting Lifeline. Meanwhile, Meghan’s As Ever brand has already begun exploring Australia as a market, following trademark registrations in 12 categories last year. The couple’s production company is also set to feature the brand in a Netflix series, blending personal and commercial interests.

Victoria and New South Wales police have confirmed their presence during the visit, though details on taxpayer support remain unclear. A spokesperson for New South Wales Police stated, “The operation will require some additional security measures throughout their stay… while minimising any disruption to the community.” Victoria Police noted their awareness of the high-profile visitors’ arrival in April, emphasizing routine assessments of events and their role in ensuring safety.
