Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy

Cambridgeshire Police announced the arrest of four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in a hospital. The incident occurred just before 19:00 BST on Sunday, when emergency services were called to Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough.

Detectives are investigating the attack as a deliberate act. St John’s Church School, located nearby, temporarily closed its doors due to “a serious incident” unfolding near the premises. The school shared an email with the BBC stating that “police are currently processing a site in close proximity to the school,” prompting the decision to shut down.

Arrests and Suspects

A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both residents of Peterborough, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Additionally, two girls, aged 16 and 17, were arrested for assisting an offender. The 16-year-old girl, from March, also faces charges related to possession of a weapon.

All four individuals remain in police custody as authorities continue their inquiry. A photo captured the extensive police presence near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday night, with a cordoned-off area visible at the entrance of Riseholme the following morning.

“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “We are in contact with his family and keeping them updated. While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack. There will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days.”

The shopping centre operates as usual, though the rear car park is closed. Some flowers have been placed near the police cordon, indicating community concern. The school confirmed it will “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates on when it plans to reopen.

Authorities have urged anyone with information or home CCTV footage to contact the police. For more on Peterborough news, follow updates on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
