Ban for teacher who told pupils about drunken night

Ban for Teacher Who Shared Personal Details with Students

A head of design technology at Westfield Academy in Yeovil, Somerset, has been indefinitely barred from teaching after revealing private aspects of her life to pupils. Natasha Blackmore, 36, admitted to actions that breached professional conduct standards during a hearing with the Teaching Regulation Agency’s Professional Conduct Panel on 24 March.

Details of the Case

The panel reviewed evidence showing Blackmore shared intimate details about her relationships and social activities, including a night of heavy drinking and vaping. She also included messages where she criticized another individual, which were deemed inappropriate for a teacher-student context. Blackmore arranged a meeting with students during school holidays and participated in social media group chats, further blurring professional boundaries.

“If it hadn’t been for those students and the support they showed me after I lost [REDACTED], I don’t think I would have come back to work properly due to the way I was feeling.”

According to the report, up to five students regularly visited her during school breaks, while one pupil described her as a friend rather than a teacher. Conversations reportedly covered personal topics such as behavior, family life, and daily experiences, creating a close rapport that extended beyond classroom interactions.

Parent’s Perspective

A parent expressed confidence in Blackmore’s teaching ability, stating they had no concerns about her conduct. “She had been a really good teacher,” the parent said, highlighting her positive influence in the classroom despite the disciplinary action.

The panel concluded that Blackmore’s actions constituted serious misconduct, falling short of the professional standards expected. Her indefinite ban can be reviewed after two years, allowing her to seek reconsideration of her status.
