Amber wind warning issued as Storm Dave set to hit parts of UK
Amber Wind Alert Activated for Storm Dave Impact
Storm Dave is forecast to unleash “disruptive and potentially damaging winds” across various UK regions, prompting an amber wind warning for Saturday evening. The Met Office has activated this alert, which spans northern England, north-west Wales, and southern Scotland, effective from 19:00 BST until 03:00 on Sunday.
The warning highlights risks of injuries or life-threatening dangers due to flying debris, alongside possible travel delays and a significant risk of power outages. Additional yellow wind and snow alerts are scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon, as the country braces for a blustery Easter weekend.
Gusts of up to 70 mph are anticipated in several regions, with coastal and exposed sites possibly experiencing winds exceeding 80 mph, according to the Met Office. Authorities recommend minimizing outdoor activity and securing loose items ahead of the weather event.
“We recommend taking extra care on exposed, higher routes and being especially cautious when overtaking high-sided vehicles, as the buffeting effect can catch some people out,” said RAC spokesperson Rod Dennis.
